I no longer have the app, but a couple of years ago I was working at a veterinary clinic, and my parents called me, bc they thought my shift ended at 6, but it was really 7. So they check my location and at some point in the day I had allegedly been at a house about miles away from my job.
I was allegedly there for 10 minutes and then returned to my job. Later there was a news report that there were two people dead in that house, a male and a female, and that animal services were involved.
So they started freaking out and instead of calling my job to see if I was there, they ended up stalking my car in the parking lot. Not only was this extremely stressful for them, I was left in shock at the inaccuracy. This would happen several times.
And the school I went to had better security. I and my family have had a degree life for about 3 years and not only is it a total privacy violation, we have also identified so many inaccuracies in the persecution. When we first got it, I was in high school in my senior year. A special incident occurred during my musical rehearsal at high school. I wasn't anywhere in this area before going to school because my house was going in the opposite direction and the rehearsal was right after school.
I had to have several friends who spoke to my mother to reassure her that we were at school for a trial. If I hadn't answered my phone when she called, she could very well have called the police and sent them to this house to find me when I wasn't even there.
These inaccuracies are not only annoying and confusing for my parents and me, but the complete violation of privacy is also a big problem. I understand that I want to make sure everyone in a family is safe, but I'm 20 years old and still need to use this app. Around when I got to high school, my mom made me get this app. She has always been overprotective, but i could deal with it before. Even before I got the app, she would always text and ask if I'm okay every like 10 minutes.
She still does it now with the app. I just feel like i am always being watched. My friends would want me to come with them around halftime to go to the convenience store nearby. I already knew that asking would be fruitless as she is extremely over protective.
I considered maybe just going there on my own accord with them, as I was becoming my own man and I wanted to be independent. However due to this app, I knew if I even went to the parking lot my mom would set my phone off like a thermonuclear warhead with texts. What is the harm in going with people to the grocery store to get good snacks and maybe some donuts?
This is all in WV by the way, where everyone is friends and you don't even need to lock your doors. Anyway my main point here is that this app makes me feel like I am trapped in a bubble. My teenage years are all but gone and I have had to sit around doing nothing. This app genuinely made me consider ending it all at one point simply due to the combined pressure of basically not having my teen years and feeling like my mom hated me.

Fortunately, Android users have several app alternatives for location sharing with people who use either Android or iOS; in most cases, everyone you want to share your location with will need to install an app. Many of these apps not only show you a device's location, but also its battery level, so when a device disappears you can deduce it was due to a low battery. Many of the apps also offer additional features, such as chat and location history, often for an additional fee. The following location sharing apps are all reasonable options for Android devices, although the feature set, pricing, and sharing features vary significantly. You likely already have a free app that allows you to share your location with friends and family on your phone: Google Maps.
Some people are just never on time. The easiest part is that you can just sign up by connecting a phone number to the app. Once you create a group you can invite others via SMS or email, and they can sign in to your group and control when their virtual light is on for you to see them. Another slick feature: Just touch on a contact and with one tap get directions right to their location with Google Maps. The app also offers an Android Wear version, which is perfect for sending a message or your location to another member of your network.
