But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. But here is what I tell you. Do not even look at a woman in the wrong way.

Anyone who does has already committed adultery with her in his heart. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Personally, God brought me to a brick wall some years back with my porn addiction, and showed me that it had had to end, period. It felt like God hit me with a two-by-four, and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He delivered me. I have not been so successful in the day-to-day comings and goings. It functions just like an addiction. I believe, like David Powlison says, sexual sin is mastered at different levels. We might overcome pornography addiction but then we move to an even deeper battle of how we see women or men in general. It at least shows you care about holiness. Only a heart made alive by the Spirit of God does this. So when you find yourself asking the question, let that be a trigger to remind you: The very asking is a sign that God is at work in you.

Question: "What does it mean to make a covenant with your eyes? In defending his conduct, Job says that he worked diligently not to look at young women in impure ways. Here, he lists many positive things he had done to walk with integrity before the Lord. Part of living a life above reproach is avoiding lust , and an integral part of avoiding lust is controlling what the eyes are allowed to view.

In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads:. The World English Bible translates the passage as:. Matthew opens in a very similar manner to Matthew , but it omits "to the ancient ones", though Gundry believes that this is implied. This verse refers to the commandment against adultery stated in Exodus

Not exactly. Jesus was criticizing the legalistic habits of the religious leaders of the day. They were great at seeing the "letter of the law," which is what the law literally says, but they did not grasp the "spirit of the law," which is the intent behind the law. When you find someone attractive and then find yourself looking for a bit longer than you normally would, do a check on your heart and your motives. Why are looking? Are you merely admiring their attractiveness? Or are you imagining them in a sexual manner? Notice Jesus' words in the above verse; He says that to look at a woman with the intent to lust is adultery.

' But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Does this mean we can't even look at.

Do we guard our eyes effectively? I remember an incident described by my cousin when we were teenagers. While returning they saw a known uncle coming out of an adult Movie Theatre. These two mischievous creatures went right in front of him and greeted him.
